Judge refuses to restore licence

A MAN disqualified from driving for four years for having no insurance, failed to get his licence restored at Wexford District Court after a senior garda said he doubted that he would be able to obtain insurance.

Alan Donnelly, Kilderry, Ballymitty applied to Judge Donnchadh O Buachalla for the removal of a four year disqualification order imposed in December 2007. The court heard that he had a previous two-year ban for drink driving between 2007 and 2009 and concurrent with that he was disqualified for six months for no insurance.

The applicant told Judge O Buachalla that he didn't have a quotation for insurance but if he got his licence back, Quinn Direct would quote him as a named driver on his girlfriend's policy.

However, Inspector Pat McDonald said he was not satisfied that he could get insurance.

Judge O Buachalla wondered if he would be able to pay a substantial premium.

Inspector McDonald said he had been previously convicted in relation to drugs.

'In all the circumstances, I'm refusing the application,' said the Judge.
