Wexford's young leader Katie Stone flew the flag for her county when she took on the Regional Final of the Rotary Club's Youth Leadership Development Competition last week.

The fifth year Loreto student from Barntown was chosen to represent Wexford in the competition which saw representatives from across the Southeast compete for a place on a Leadership Development Programme. Although Katie and one other contestant narrowly missed out on being selected, their efforts were commended by President Elect of the Rotary Club of Ireland Eddie Breen.

'The five girls here today are all self assured, confident and personable individuals, who have demonstrated exemplary leadership qualities through a broad range of initiatives and activities. It is fair to say, that the future of our country is in safe hands,' he said.

Ciara McArdle, Aoife O'Carroll and Aoife O'Sullivan had been selected to participate in the Leadership Development Programme, which will see them visit Dáil Éireann in Dublin, Stormont in Belfast and the European Parliament in Strasbourg.
