Minister Paul Kehoe has welcomed confirmation that sporting clubs and organisations in Wexford will be able to apply for Sports Capital Funding in 2017.

The measure forms part of package of measures announced on Budget Day aimed at supporting local communities.

'The significant health benefits of sport are widely known and the Sports Capital Programme has in the past provided vital funding to sporting clubs and organisations across County Wexford for the provision of sporting facilities and the purchase of sporting equipment. 'The funding for the next round of the Programme will form part of a €52 million capital funding package for sport.

'This is a very significant investment and a strong indication of this government's commitment to support the wonderful work so many are doing to contribute to local communities.

'Last year alone 60 organisations in Wexford benefitted from over €4 million in funding for the county,' said the minister.
