Kilrush Drama Group took top honours at the All Ireland Confined Drama festival at the weekend with their performance of 'Poor Beast in the Rain' by Billy Roche.

Two of the group, Mick Byrne and Ellie Condron, were singled out for their roles with Mick taking home beset producer and Ellie taking best supporting actress.

In the play Eileen works in her father's betting shop. Molly Steven and Joe manage to keep their regrets about the past locked away and young Georgie is ready to turn his back on the outside world and follow their example, until the return of the legendary danger Doyle. Having turned his back on the cycle of missed opportunities and thwarted desires to run away to London with Eileen's mother, danger Doyle now offers Eileen the possibility of escape.

There was great excitement in Sean's Og's of Kilmuckridge when the winners were announced after midnight and with the group after celebrating its 50th anniversary last year the members couldn't contain their delight at the prestigious award.
