QUICK as Lee Chin, Cllr George Lawlor leapt to the defence of Wexford hurling fans after Cllr Davy Hynes accused some of going too wild with their celebrations on the night of the Kilkenny match, leaving a trail of litter and broken plant pots in their wake.

Cllr Hynes said: 'For some people when we win something it's a great laugh to go out and get plastered and destroy the town. Wexford Tidy Towns has to tidy it up. If we win again we will have the same carry on.'

Cllr Lawlor took exception to his former party colleagues line of attack, and brought some analysis to the debate. 'It's not just on match days that that happens,' he said.
