Learning experience for parents

Childcare Network Loch Garman will facilitate a five-week learning experience for parents of one to 10 year olds as part of a National Early Years Parent Support Initiative. Childcare coordinator Carmel Lonergan said the aim of the courses is to support parents in the good job they are already doing, to help them bring up emotionally secure, happy children who reach their full potential. Topics covered will include; Communication, Importance of Play, Encouragement & Self Esteem, Teaching children how to behave well, Helping children learn, Parent self care and much more. Carmel said the programme will be presented in an interactive, positive way, using DVD, exercises and discussion. 'It gives parents an opportunity to talk, share experiences and learn from this well researched, evidenced-based material and from each other,' she said. Venues and dates are: Stella Maris Hall, Kilmore Quay starting Monday, Septemner 21, 10 a.m. to 12 noon; Sugradh Childcare centre, Ramsgrange starting Wednesday, September 23, 10 a.m. to 12 noon and St Anne's Childcare Centre, Templeshannon, Enniscorthy, Tuesday, November 3, 10 a.m. to 12 noon.
