Lecture on the Great War
THE WAR will come to Wexford on Thursday, October 24, when Dr. Ciarán Wallace, from Trinity College, will deliver a lecture at the town library on the Volunteers and the Outbreak of the Great War.
In the summer of 1914 tensions mounted as the Irish Volunteers recruited and drilled in preparation for Home Rule, while the Ulster Volunteers gathered forces to oppose it. The sudden outbreak of war in Europe transformed the situation, presenting people across Ireland with a new and worrying challenge. This talk will examine the early days of the Great War as seen by Wexford Civilians, military and politicians. Booking is advisable. Free and all welcome. Call (053) 9196760 for more information.
