Letter to the editor: Call to parents from mum of boy with Down's Syndrome
I was saddened to hear of the recent events in Dublin and Cork where people with special needs were beaten and bullied; and then even more saddened when my own son, who has Down's syndrome, was ridiculed and laughed at on Gorey's Main Street, leaving him in tears.
Luckily, there is a great network of shopkeepers and locals who care about him, but it only takes a few senseless people and mindless comments to ruin his trust and spoil what enjoyment he gets from his life.
Parents, please teach your children to treat others as they themselves would like to be treated.
A Gorey mother.
