Local lifeguard recruits sought

Wednesday October 01 2008

WEXFORD Water Safety's Lifesaving team is currently looking for new recruits.

Life may seem like a beach for Wexford Water Safety's Lifesaving team, whose members spent a large proportion of the past four months at the seaside.

But Wexford Water Safety's PRO Ruairi Farrell explains that it's not all sun, sea and sand, as the squad have been extremely busy all summer in preparation for tough national and international competitions, which dot the lifesaving calendar.

'The standard of lifeguard is extremely high in Co. Wexford, with very few incidents reported over the summer months due to the close vigilance and hard training endured by the young men and women who patrol our shorelines,' said Ruairi.

'Beaches such as Curracloe, Duncannon, Courtown and Rosslare are patrolled by qualified and experienced lifeguards who work hard to ensure our coastlines remain a safe place to be enjoyed. Wexford County Council in conjunction with Wexford Water Safety put a lot of effort and finance into ensuring our lifeguards are well equipped to deal with the job,' he said.
