Local restaurants in running for top food awards

Eight restaurants across Wexford are in the running for top foodie awards this Sunday.

The award winning restaurants won the county awards during the Leinster round of the Irish Restaurant Awards and on May 25 will find out if they have what it takes to be crowned All Ireland champions.

Having won the Best Restaurant and Best Chef award for Wexford in 2012 and 2013 and 2014, Aldridge Lodge and chef/ owner Billy Whitty has won both titles a fourth consecutive time. The Wexford Winners are as follows; Best Restaurant - Aldridge Lodge Restaurant; Best Chef - Billy Whitty, Aldridge Lodge Restaurant; Best Gastro Pub - Tides Gastro Pub; Best Casual Dining - The Pigs Tale ; Best Hotel Restaurant - The Restaurant at Marlfield House; Best Customer Service - The River Bar & Restaurant at Riverbank House Hotel; Best Wine Experience -Greenacres; Best Emerging Irish Cuisine - Cistín Eile; Best Newcomer - La Côte.

It was a special win for Billy Whitty and Aldridge Lodge who won the best restaurant and best chef in Leinster for the fourth consecutive year.

The Wexford finalists received a mystery guest inspection and were also assessed on their menu, customer service, and the overall dining experience from the moment the booking is made until the customer receives the bill.

Adrian Cummins, Chief Executive of the Restaurants Association said: 'Interest in the Irish Restaurant Awards has grown year on year, and the awards are a celebration in the best of Irish cuisine. Tickets can be bought at awards@rai.ie.
