Look out for horses in flooded fields says WSPCA

PEOPLE have been asked to be alert to the danger of horses being trapped in flooded fields over Christmas.
With more heavy rain and storms forecast, the WPSCA said it feared that horses left out to graze could become isolated and left starving.
'We were called out to Duncormick a few days ago where two horses were trapped, however there was a strip of ground where they were standing and we managed to trace the owner, who said he would deal with the problem,' said a WSPCA member, who looks after horses.
'We get a lot of calls from people who see horses trapped in flooded fields. If anyone spots a real emergency they should call on 087 9884272,' she said, adding that for the first time in several years there had so far been no reports of horses trapped on what is known locally as the Island, in Enniscorthy.
Meanwhile, the WSPCA is looking for good homes for six horses and cobs. Call 053 9143919.
