Lorry sheds load
AN UNEXPECTED weekend assignment was taken on with great efficiency by council workers after a lorry shed its load in the village of Ferns. The stricken vehicle was carrying a consignment of offal which spilled out on to the road in the Saturday sunshine, Cllr. Declan MacPartlin told his fellow councillors.
Local resident, council engineer Neville Shaw, was alerted to the foul smelling problem and called up a gang of workers who tackled the problem at the roundabout. The councillor was full of praise for the staff who took on what he called a horrible job. His praise was echoed by director of services Niall McGuigan.
