Mallon Street has become a marvel
VISITORS to the Wexford Festival Opera this will be very pleasantly surprised by the transformation which Mallon Street has undergone since last year.
This is the street which runs below Rowe Street Church grounds and is the site of the new library. The library itself had many critics from those who didn't like the design to people who believed it was simply being built in the wrong place. Whatever about those arguments, and they had an element of validity, the final job is really a credit to everyone associated with it.
The street, which at festival time forms part of an important pedestrian route to the theatre, is a smashing example of how a very poor streetscape can be transformed into something special with a bit of imagination.
