Man pleads guilty to assaulting son

SEÁN MALONE, of Flat 2, 72 North Main Street, pleaded guilty to assaulting his then 21-year-old son Ian Malone and acting in a threatening, abusive or insulting manner at Windmill Heights on May 5, 2007.

Eva Lalor, for Malone, said the case had been adjourned to see if her client could stay out of trouble, which he has. He has also attended Aiseiri in an effort to address drink and drug problems.

Inspector McDonald said the assault happened in a house. 'Have matters healed within the family?' asked Judge O Buachalla. Ms Lalor said that Seán Malone had 'extended the olive branch', but it hadn't been accepted by his family. Probation officer Phil Lyons, who is dealing with Malone on other matters and said he is making great efforts and keeping all his appointments, told the court that at the time, he was 'out of control' due to his addiction problems.

Judge O Buachalla asked Mr Lyons to provide an update report and the matter was adjourned to May 17.
