Many events postponed

THE ARCTIC weather forced the postponement of various events in including the annual Wexford Pantomime Society production which will now start on Tuesday night next, January 19.
'Sleeping Beauty' was due to hit the stage at Dun Mhuire this week but with weather forecasters predicting a snow blizzard for Sunday night, the organisers decided to defer it.
A wedding fair due to take place in Whites Hotel on Sunday last was postponed to Sunday, January 24.
The scheduled monthly meetings of Wexford County Council and Wexford Borough Council were also postponed due to the weather.
Late night revellers on Sunday night also found their regular haunt, The Back Room at the Centenary Stores was closed for business. Foul weather predictions caused the nightclub to shut up shop early, despite the fact that the thaw had started to set in by Sunday evening.
On Saturday night disco goers stayed close to home which meant that only one floor of the threetiered nightclub was open for business.
Young players with Wexford Wanderers rugby club were disppointed when a trip to Dublin last Saturday, to play during a Leinster versus Glasgow Warriors game in the RDS, was cancelled.
The U-12 team were looking forward to the honour of appearing on the pitch during the match but the game was called off.
Pantomime plans in Oylegate were put on hold as 'Sinbad the Sailor' was set back for a week. The producers had no option but to postpone for a week as snow descended last Wednesday – the very night that she show was supposed to open.
'We are now going ahead hell for leather on Wednesday (January 13),' confirmed Sinbad director and writer Ray Quigley. 'We had no choice last week.'
The cast, who had their dress rehearsal as normal last week, have been considering how to embroider the script with topical references to the big freeze. The show, weather permitting, is set to run in St. David's hall until Sunday.
