Long time wardrobe volunteer Marie Brady from Bernadette Place has been named as this year's Ecclesiastical/ Wexford Festival Opera Volunteer of the Year.

Marie, who began volunteering for the festival in 1983, was announced as the winner of this year's award by Artistic Director David Agler and Scott Hayes, Head of Relationship Management, Ecclesiastical during the first public dress rehearsal of Herculanum last Sunday.

Marie began volunteering for the Festival in 1983 when Stella O'Kennedy, the Head of Wardrobe at the time, suggested that her interest in dressmaking and sewing would be a great asset to the Festival. When Stella sadly passed away in 2005, Marie stepped into the role as Head of Wardrobe and currently leads a team of 11 volunteers.

Speaking on behalf of all the volunteers with the Festival, David Maguire, Head of Volunteers said:

'While there is only one award annually, more than 350 volunteers generously donate their time and energy to various aspects of the Festival and it is this energy, drive, commitment and enthusiasm that makes Wexford one of the most loved of all opera festivals, recognised as one of the top three in the world.'
