MarineWatch volunteers touched by hand shakes in Wexford Quays
MarineWatch volunteers, some of who remained on duty until the early hours following the Leaving Cert results, said they were taken aback at the numbers of young people who came over to shake their hands and thank them for what they were doing.
'As a another night's patrol draws to a close, we are happy to report the night went quietly and incident free,' a MarineWatch spokesperson said on social media.
'We assisted with two separate young females during the evening who had become seperated from their friends, and gave them shelter from the rain and a blanket to warm up.
'Tonight in fact, we were taken aback by the amount of young people who came over to shake our hands and thanked us for what we do - including many who have been touched by the suicide of a friend or family member.
'It is a warm feeling that the youth of today still have a respect and an understanding of what we do, night after night. Thank you to those people.
'A big thanks also to our volunteers who stayed on much later than anticipated,'
