Massive increase in illegal dumping

The large increase in the number of illegal dumping clean-ups that the council had to carry is a source of concern.
Cllr Deirdre Wadding told last week's municipal borough meeting that from January until August 2015 a total of 847 clean ups had been carried out by the council but this had increase to 1,269 for the same period this year. She said that this is 'a huge increase' and wondered if anyone had been prosecuted.
Engineer Craig Innes said 'at the end of the day illegal dumping is a scourge. Some people say it would be avoided if there were greater access to waste disposal for people who don't have a collection. We put up signage and CCTV but unfortunately there is still an economic incentive.'
