WIND over nuclear power was the verdict of councillors who debated a motion on keeping County Wexford nuclear free.
Cllr Deirdre Wadding, right, made the call in a motion for the county to remain nuclear free. She said: 'We should carry on the tradition of Wexford being nuclear free. We do have the history of Carnsore Point.'
Cllr Davy Hynes said the county led the way against nuclear power at the Carnsore Point protests.
Cllr Robbie Ireton said a power line has been developed running from Wales to Ireland. He said: 'With this if we run out of power we won't be able to switch on the lights here. If everything blows we will all be fecked anyway.'
Cllr Wadding replied: 'If we say we are nuclear-free, we are nuclear-free.'
Retiring environmentalist Chairman Paddy Kavanagh joined in on the fun, saying: 'I, for one, won't be getting the candles out for the sake of the world.'
Cllr Johnny Mythen suggested that wind power is the way forward.
The motion was backed by a majority of councillors.
