An enthusiastic crowd of hunting supporters gathered for the opening of the new kennels for the Island Hunt in Ballyconnick, Cleariestown, Wexford.

The Chairman of the Island Hunt Paddy Kavanagh welcomed everyone and said how pleased he was the hunt committee secured the services of Paul Scallan as Kennelman and Huntsman of the Island Foxhounds.

Paddy also announced the appointment of Pat Walsh from Ballycanew as Master of the Island Hunt and wished him every success in his new position.

After Paddy's welcoming speech, Michael Higgens, a long serving Master and Huntsman (notably of the Tipperary Foxhounds) declared the kennels officially opened.

Michael recalled his own time spent hunting with the Island pack in the late 1960s, when he was stationed at the Island Kennels, Rockmount, Ferns.

A presentation was made to Higgens to reflect on his long association with the Island and to thank him for performing the opening ceremony.

Paul Scallan thanked his two whippers-in, John Ellard and Mikey Moran, as well as Walter Ronan for their support and hard work.

Guests were taken on a tour of the kennels and were served tea and refreshments at the conclusion of an enjoyable day in the Wexford countryside.
