New seven-screen cinema to put the focus on 3-D
THE COUNTY'S newest cinema, a seven-screen picture house in Gorey, hopes to launch in early June with a 3-D movie bonanza.
The shell and core of the building were handed over in the past few weeks to the Spurling Cinema Group so work on the interior of the building on the Courtown Road can begin.
'We're well ahead of schedule,' said Graham Spurling this week. He said that all seven screens will have 3D capability, and all screens will also be able to take live feeds from events around the world. 'No multiplex is fully 3D enabled in the US,' he said. 'We hope to show seven 3D films in the first week.'
Films expected to grace the screen this summer include Sex and the City 2 in 3D, Space Chimps in 3D, Shrek 4 in 3D, and Toy Story 3 in 3D. Graham saw Toy Story 3 in the US last week. 'Absolutely without doubt, it's the best they have ever made,' he said. Other films due out this summer include the next Karate Kid movie, and Twilight Eclipse. 'It's a big blockbuster summer,' said Graham.
The cinema will also show live operas, plays, ballets, and other big events. The first confirmed live event is an opera from Barcelona in July.
