On trial for three ATM robberies

A JURY HAS been sworn in at Wexford Circuit Court for the trial of a man accused of three ATM robberies across the south-east in 2008 and 2009.

Michael Berry, of 2 Hillview, Carnew, County Wicklow, has pleaded not guilty to the robberies at Tullow Road in Carlow in November 2008, at Graignamanagh in County Kilkenny in June 2009, and at Enniscorthy in July 2009.

The 36-year-old has also pleaded not guilty to 18 other charges, including aggravated burglarly at different locations while in possession of a baseball bat, crowbar, and sledge hammer, at locations in Counties Wexford, Wicklow, Carlow and Waterford.

The jury was sworn in last Tuesday, and the court was told the trial would take between five and seven weeks. Some 286 witnesses are expected to be called.

Legal applications in the absence of the jury then began, and continued until Friday. Members of the jury have been instructed to return to court
