Including Family Income Supplement (FIS) payments in housing needs assessments shouldn't be tolerated according to members of Wexford Borough District.
Cllr Anthony Kelly and Deirdre Wadding raised the matter at last week's meeting of Wexford Borough District expressing concerns that FIS payments are included in the income levels of people on the housing list.
Cllr Davy Hynes said the payments were issued to provide for basic family needs. Cllr George Lawlor said it was 'ludicrous that a payment designed to remove people from the poverty trap can be used to calculate income for social housing eligibility.'
Director of Services Tony Larkin said that FIS payments were included in the calculations. Cllr Lawlor proposed that the council write to the department expressing its concerns.
