'People' reporters in contention for journalism award

TWO People Newspapers journalists have been nominated for a National Newspapers of Ireland award.

Both Maria Pepper and Fintan Lambe are in contention for the prestigious NNI Regional Journalist of the Year accolade.

They are among six nominees in the hard-fought category which also features journalists from the Cork Evening Echo, Roscommon Herald and Western People.

An experienced reporter with the Wexford People, Maria Pepper is based in People Newspapers' Wexford headquarters at Channing House in Rowe Street. She was previously nominated for the Regional Journalist of the Year award in 2011.

Fintan Lambe, People Newspapers' chief reporter at the Gorey Guardian, is a first-time awards nominee.

Ian Kehoe, who is from Enniscorthy and works for the Sunday Business Post, has also been nominated, in three categories: Feature Writer of the Year, Business & Economics Journalist of the Year and News Analysis.

The winners of the NNI Journalism Awards 2013 will be unveiled at a gala lunch at the Four Seasons Hotel in Dublin on November 7 when broadcaster and journalist Matt Cooper will act as MC.
