Petitt's SuperValu to sign up to new rounding system

Petitt's SuperValu have confirmed that they are to switch to the new rounding system, which will come into effect from October 28.
Their decision to eliminate one and two cent coins from the stores comes following the success of the trial carried out in Wexford in 2013. The system will see cash transactions being rounded up or down to the nearest five cents, eliminating the need for small coins.
'Most people give out about small coins building up in their purse,' said Padraig Doran, manager of the Wexford store at St. Aidan's Shopping Centre. 'We took part in the trial and it was a great success. We will certainly be making the switch.'
All four of the Petitt's stores in Wexford will be joining up to the scheme, which will be rolled out nationally from October 28.
In recent weeks, the Central Bank launched an awareness campaign for retailers to explain the new system. According to Padraig, Petitt's customers will also be made aware of the switch prior to the change.
'I'm sure that there will be some form of national awareness campaign but we will certainly play our part also,' said Padraig.
Petitt's is one of the many retailers due to phase out the small coins following the Central Bank's decision to stop minting them.
