Picture snaps up telly for homeless hostel
THIS PHOTOGRAPH of elderly Wexford resident Billy Joel won the Ozanam House hostel for homeless men in Green Street, Wexford, a brand new telly.
The photograph taken by hostel manager John Coady was a prizewinner in a competition run by the national organisation Better Together.
Billy, who revels in the same name as the famous singer, was attending a barbecue at the hostel which was held to launch a men's group called M.A.D. (Making A Difference).
M.A.D. is running a life skills programme for past and present residents of the hostel with tutors Robbie Sludds, George Bridges and Treve Holman who are currently studying for degrees in community development with Waterford Institute of Technology.
The photo competition was organised as part of the 'Know Your Neighbour' initiative with entries submitted from all over the country.
Ozanam House won a 32 inch flat screen TV which is now being enjoyed by everyone in the hostel.
The caption on the photo read: 'A right oul sizzler in me day, and it's still rock n' roll to me'.
Billy, a former resident of the hostel who now lives in John Street, is pictured with caterer Linda O'Connor.
