Pipe leaking 87 million litres of water per year

A pipe in Maudlintown is leaking 10,000 litres of water an hour which adds up to 87million litres of water a year.
Cllr George Lawlor said 'the notion that this level of water is being lost is madness. But the leakage is 10 per cent of the daily output of Mayglass.' Cllr Anthony Kelly said he reported that leak a year ago. 'I was told it was the responsibility of Irish Water. They are talking about conservation yet they are losing that much in one pipe.' He said that a recent fire could have 'killed someone' because of water issues.
