Praise for 'wonderful' 1916 programme of events
TRIBUTES were paid to the organisers of the extensive 1916 Rising commemoration programme in County Wexford at the meeting.
Cllr Keith Doyle congratulated Enniscorthy Municipal District Manager Padraig O'Gorman and everyone involved in the programme.
Cllr Doyle said: 'They pulled all the strands together. I want to thank Padraig for putting together such a wonderful programme of events.'
Cllr Michael Sheehan expressed concern that some of the events in the county may clash.
'People will have to decide between events and miss out on some.'
Cllr James Browne praised Mr O'Gorman, saying that he went above and beyond what was asked of him to ensure the county has a fantastic programme of events to mark such a momentous year in the nation's history.
Cllr John Hegarty said: 'It's remarkable that this piece of work has been done so quickly,' while Cllr Anthony Kelly praised the trojan work carried out by the organising committee.
Cllr Paddy Kavanagh said: 'This is nothing new to the people of Enniscorthy who commemorate 1916 every year but next year will be the biggest year.'
Mr Carley said the dates for the events are flexible, so they should not clash.
