Priests on the move as various clerical changes announced

A NUMBER of priests in the Diocese are on the move following a raft of clerical changes.

On Sunday Bishop of Ferns, Denis Brennan announced a number of changes across the Diocese.

Fr Hugh O'Byrne, current parish priest in Blackwater, is to retire on health grounds effective immediately. Fr Brendan Nolan, parish priest in Our Lady's Island, will take up a post as parish priest of Blackwater, effective from August 6.

Fr James Cogley, parish priest in Oylegate, will move to Our Lady's Island as parish priest effective from August 6.

Administrator of St Senan's Parish Fr John Byrne will take up a post as parish priest in Oylegate effective from August 6 while Fr Paddy Banville, curate in St Senan's Parish, will now be the administrator in the parish effective from August 6.

Fr Robert McGuire, curate in Galbally-Ballyhogue, will move to Caroreigh as curate effective from August 6.

Current chaplain at Wexford General Hospital Fr Ken Quinn will move to Galbally-Ballyhogue as curate while Fr Michael Doyle, current curate in St Leonards, will take on the role of chaplain in the hospital in addition to his parish duties.

Fr David Murphy will also take temporary sabbatical leave pending appointment.
