A proposal to waive the rent liable by It's Good 2 Talk was mooted at last week's meeting of Wexford Municipal District.

District manager Angie Laffan said that the council is currently regularising the leases involved with the tenants of the Old County Hall on Spawell Road.

She said that each tenant will be responsible for its own legal costs and Wexford County Council is responsible for its costs.

There are currently ten tenants in the building paying varying amounts of annual rent. These are; Wexford Local Development (€64,310), MS Ireland (€10), Lantern Events (€52), Ros Tapestry (€200), it's Good 2 Talk (€7,000), Carlow IT (€58,250), Highwind Media (€3,400), ISACS (€100) and Wexford Working Men's Club (€100).

Cllr George Lawlor said that he was aware an arrangement had been reached last year regarding the rent for It's Good 2 Talk because of a lack of funds on their behalf. 'I think that rent should be waived for an organisation like that. It does tremendous work and is a great facility. We are all aware of the lack of mental health services in the county.'

He was supported by Cllr Ger Carthy who had worked with the organisation previously to come to an agreement with the rent.

Ms Laffan said she would bring that suggestion back to management.
