Reaction to Cowen interview: Clear voice needed
IT WASN'T one bad interview that angered people but the culmination of years of bad government, according to the Wexford Labour TD and Leas Ceann Comhairle Brendan Howlin.
'People are afraid about their jobs, holding on to their homes and the future prospects of their children. They want a clear and steady voice from the people in charge. The fact that this was so audibly lacking is what caused the reaction,' he said.
Deputy Howlin heard the interview live and said he knew instantly that it was going to have very serious repercussions. Does he think it sealed Brian Cowen's fate? ' That is a matter for Fianna Fáil. I think a lot of Fianna Fáil TDs know now that the date of the general election has drawn closer and they will be looking out for their own survival,' he said. The Labour Party served tea at its annual ' think tank' in Roscommon last week, leading one national daily newspaper to call it the ' Tea Party'.
