THE Apex in New Ross will reopen on Wednesday, April 29.

The €7m leisure centre, which opened in October 2013 but had to close within four months after Storm Darwin blew the roof off it, is reopening after a €1m plus renovation job by Mythen Construction Ltd.

New Ross District Director Eamonn Hore said: 'It's great that it will be open again; it's great news for the town. It has been completely renovated.'

Cllr Anthony Connick asked if an official opening will be taking place and he was told that the emphasis was on opening the leisure centre in April, as was promised, and that the official opening will be planned over the coming months.

Cllr Willie Fitzharris said: 'It has been tough on the council staff. When you're driving past you don't know what's going on. I'd say there were a lot of sleepless nights over it, but it's good that it's opening.'
