THE COUNTY Council is appointing a consultant to draw up a proposals for the urban regeneration of Rosslare Harbour village.

Cllr George Lawlor said county council chief executive Tom Enright had informed him of the decision following a motion he had submitted to Wexford Borough District requesting that such a programme be established.

'Mr Tom Enright has informed me that the council are in the process of appointing a consultant to draw up proposals and a plan with a view to having the village ready to capitalise on urban regeneration monies which is believed to be coming down the line,' said Cllr Lawlor.

He said Rosslare Harbour village suffered greatly following the economic collapse, with a disproportionate number number of derelict properties lying idle for some time.

'As a result it is essential that we are ready with concrete proposals when funding and investment becomes available and for this reason the appointment of a consultant to begin that process is vital,' Cllr Lawlor told this newspaper.

'Rosslare Harbour has the advantage of having a vibrant community and people with a tremendous community spirit who deserve all our support in revitalising and regenerating the area. The appointment of a consultant to deliver this plan is one of the first steps in that task. I'm delighted that chief executive Tom Enright will spearhead this and I am confident that this community will thrive again,' he said.
