RELIEF is in sight for motorists who have been hit by delays due to gas pipeline works on the N25 between the Maldron Hotel and Larkin's Cross.

The county council had anticipated the works, which caused delays of up to 35 minutes with traffic confined to one lane while trenches were being dug and pipes laid, would go on until Christmas Eve, but now it appears they will be finished by Friday (December 18).

Cllr George Lawlor said he had been given the new completion date by works engineers involved in the project.

He said that in addition to the earlier completion date, work will be transferring from the road carriageway to the grass verge from today (Tuesday, December 13) which means that two lanes will again be open from traffic.

'It's great news after a couple of weeks of frustration for people using the road,' said Cllr Lawlor.
