A motion by Cllr Deirdre Wadding calling on Wexford County Council members to urge their party colleagues and associates in the Dáil to support the bill to repeal the 8th Amendment failed to garner enough support to be passed.
Speaking on behalf of the Fianna Fáil members, Cllr Keith Doyle said they would decline to support the motion, instead inviting Cllr Wadding, who is a member of the People Before Profit party, to join the Fianna Fáil party.
'I'd rather stick pins in my eyes,' came her pointed response.
Chairman Cllr Paddy Kavanagh said: 'People's feelings on this are their own and TDs may have to vote on this at some point and that is up to them.'
