Rosslare roundabout roadworks cause major disruptions
There were long tailbacks on the Rosslare Road during the Monday morning rush hour last week because of road works at the main roundabout on the N25.
Motorists travelling into Wexford from the Rosslare direction reported delays of up to 25 minutes at the roundabout caused by works to resurface the road around it and traffic controls at each of the junctions.
'It was ridiculous. I was late getting to work.. I thought there weren't supposed to be road works carried out during rush hours,' said one very annoyed motorist.
The delays are the latest in a series of delays caused by works on the road which began back in August.
Director of Services Eamonn Hore said that disruption was caused as they were not satisfied with the way that the work was completed.
'We always do an inspection on work before we sign off on it. An engineer and technician went out to inspect the finished work and weren't happy with a joint in the road. We didn't want to leave a defective joint so we got the contractor to take it up and redo it,' he explained.
There were further disruptions on Wednesday, a mains water supply burst by the N25 near Rosslare Strand. Supplies to the Rosslare Strand, Tagoat, Killinick, Lady's Island and Tacumshane areas were affected.
