Rowe Street jeweller make efforts to pin down major historical event
Several lucky Wexford residents now have the chance to get their hands on a limited edition pin, which was created to commemorate the 1916 Rising.
Kevin and Brian Martin, from Martin's Jewellers in Rowe Street, launched the pin and an updated 'Wexford ring' at a special ceremony attended by Cllr Ger Carthy, Mayor of Wexford.
The Martins are producing 16 gold pins, 916 in silver and 1,916 in base metal in honour of the 100-year anniversary of the Rising. The design incorporates important symbols, including the bow of the gun-running ship Asgard and a Mauser 1871 rifle set against the burning General Post Office in Dublin.
'1916 is such a big year and many people haven't clicked into it yet,' said Kevin. 'We wanted to do something a little bit different.'
The pins cost €15, €69.90 and €475 according to the metal and all will be numbered.
