The Wexford Scout Clonard Unit are set to buy an area of land from Wexford County Council

The members of the borough district agreed the sale last Monday at their monthly meeting. The 753 sqm patch of land adjacent to Clonard Church and behind the fire station will be bought by the 13th Wexford Scout Group Clonard Unit for €100 and will be used to build a new scout hall.

The land sale is subject to the scout group getting the relevant planning permission and all legal fees will be borne by Wexford County Council and work must have started on the site before January 1, 2017.

The scout group will be responsible for the relocation and reinstatement of the footpath between Liam Mellows Park and Clonard Church.

Mayor George Lawlor said he felt it was an excellent location for the scout hall and Cllr Anthony Kelly proposed the sale with Cllr Fergie Kehoe seconding it.

Director of Services Tony Larkin said the group were working on fundraising and working closely with the council.
