FIVE THE ANNUAL Seafarers and civic Mass will take place at Bride Street Church on Sunday, June 14, at 11 a.m. at which five 'service medals' (pictured) will be presented.
The Mass is to remember all those from Wexford and anywhere else in the world who have lost their lives at sea.
'We would like to give the people of Wexford the opportunity to take part in this service of remembrance whether they have family or friends that were lost,' said Anne Murphy, from Wexford's Friends of the Tall Ships.
The medal idea was the brainchild of the Friends' late secretary Michael Murphy who thought it was unfair that seafarers who served on ships during the Great War were not recognised in their own homeland.
Following the Mass, a wreath-laying ceremony will take place after a short parade from the church to the seamen's plaque at Crescent Quay, weather permitting.
