Sean Bán's Unyoke memory of Gerry
GREAT gaelgoir Sean Bán Breathnach has revealed how one of his greatest memories of the late Gerry Ryan involves a County Wexford venue and how he was allowed make a few quid while Ryan took the night off.
Breathnach joined Ryan this week among the inaugural inductees in the PPI Radio Hall of Fame, and in a tribute to the late 2FM man, he told how both of them turned up to do a disco at the popular Unyoke venue during the 1980s, after a double-booking occurred.
'I had done two seasons on The Breakfast Show on 2FM but I was also working on the disco circuit at the same time as Gerry,' he recalled. 'I remember on one occasion, I turned up at the Unyoke Inn, which would have been very well known at the time, only to find that both myself and Gerry had been booked for the event.
'I immediately thought I would be picking up my records, but it was Gerry who picked up his instead.
'Sean,' he said, 'I think you need this more than me!', and off he went!'
