Silver medallist Ryan honoured by council

Ryan Carthy Walsh enjoyed a second homecoming in the Enniscorthy Hub last Tuesday when he was honoured by Wexford County Council for his achievements .

Ryan, from Adamstown, won a European Youth Olympic Silver medal in Tbilisi, Georgia, last month having jumped a new personal best of 2.09m to earn the 2nd place position on the podium.

Ryan. who won the Wexford Senior County Championships at Enniscorthy Sports Hub, the Leinster & National Championships at Junior and under-17 level this year and is the National Record holder for his age, both indoors and outdoors, will turn 16 in August.

His mother Denise said that he is overwhelmed by the welcome home he received both in Adamstown and in Enniscorthy on Tuesday.

The teen, who is a student at Good Counsel College, is heading into Transition Year this September. He is currently training for the Community Games finals later this month. This is the last year he will be eligible to compete at that level.
