Solid showing right throughout the area

COMMUNITIES throughout the Wexford area put in strong performances in this year's Tidy Towns.

The town itself, on the back of the re-invigoration of the hard-working local committee, backed by volunteers and communities around Wexford, has gained three marks and would have had further gains but for the huge amount of litter noted around the Main Street area during the Saturday afternoon inspection.

Once again Rosslare Strand set very high standards, securing 273 marks, while Blackwater, with 269, was not far behind the seaside village.

There were many encouraging performances elsewhere, with Castlebridge and Oylegate recording gains, while Taghmon and Carrig-on-Bannow rejoined the Tidy Towns competition after long absences.

Rosslare Harbour and Kilrane entered separately this year and the split did them no harm, as they both easily topped their combined score from last year.
