St Joseph's in Wexford ready to rumble with Vegas-style fight night

a Vegas-style white collar Fight Night is due to take place at St Joseph's Club in Wexford on Saturday, March 4, with GAA stars swapping their hurls for boxing gloves to raise funds for their clubs.

The return of the highly-successful event, billed as 'a mega fund raiser for grass roots sports clubs,' will see local sporting heroes make the transition from pitch to ring to help raise much-needed funds for their local clubs. Doors open at 6.30 p.m. for those who want a ringside seat, with the first bout due to get under way at 7.30 p.m. Fight Night, now in its fourth year, has gone from strength-to-strength with more than 1,000 fans attending to cheer on their local heroes last year. The six clubs taking part are St Joseph's GAA Club, St Mary's Maudlintown GAA Club, Wexford Albion AFC, Wexford Bohs AFC, Wexford Celtic AFC and Menapians Athletic Club. 'This night is a great sporting occasion and has really caught the imagination of the people of Wexford. Thirty athletes who have never boxed before will participate,' said Wayne Rogan, Chairman of St Joseph's.All the boxers are undergoing a rigorous training programme, overseen by senior experienced boxing coaches. The tournament will consist of 12 Bouts of three rounds each. Spectator tickets cost €15 are on sale now.
