THIRTY-four kayaks which were stolen from Shielbaggan Outdoor Education Centre were recovered on Thursday after they were spotted by someone in Tipperary.

Worth more than €25,000, the blue and white and green and white kayaks, and the trailer, were stolen on the morning of Monday, March 21, after thieves broke into the centre having dug up the gates.

A man was arrested in Tipperary on Thursday and the kayaks were recovered by gardaí and returned. Shielbaggan Activity Centre instructor Emer Murphy said: 'We are absolutely delighted. We just want to thank everyone for sharing the post on Facebook.'

A Garda spokesperson said a file on the case is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

'The kayaks are back now with the centre. We got a great response both online and in the media. We even got calls from drivers when they were being towed back to New Ross. As a result of the public's interaction with us and their willingness to contact the Gardaí they were recovered and it shows the benefit of the public having faith and contacting is.
