'Streetworkout' plan for Wexford town estate

A Wexford town resident is hoping to win backing for plans to set-up a 'Streetworkout' area in Cromwellsfort.
Igor Sanin, who lives in Cromwellsfort Avenue, said there was a big demand for the workout area, which would cater for teenagers and adults, and he had the support of many other local residents.
However, the area targeted for the 'Streetworkout' area is private land, and there is an issue with Public Liability Insurance, which has to be resolved before the project could progress. 'I would like to ask for help in getting this sorted,' said Mr Sanin, a Moldovan father-of-three, who runs Mattress Direct in Wexford and has lived in Ireland for the past 15 years. He said youngsters were not getting enough exercise and needed something that would interest and challenge them that was easily accessible. Former councillor Joe Ryan, who lives in Cromwellsfort, and helped Mr Sanin bring his ideas to the then-borough council, said that insurance was the stumbling block. 'As the piece of land is not council owned it would not be covered.. there's a playground nearby that would be covered, but this would not be.' Mr Ryan said he supported the idea and would prove popular. 'It would provide an outlet for young people. It's something different and I would see a huge interest in it over the summer,' he said. 'Streetworkout' is a free workout routine popular in urban areas, particularly in Eastern Europe, and where green space for more traditional pursuits is at a premium.
