Stuck bus gets a lift

A TRACTOR was brought in to assist a Bus Eireann bus which slipped on Gorey's Main Street last Wednesday night.
The bus had difficulty negotiating the hill at the traffic lights, and slipped sideways in the road, coming to rest next to one set of the traffic lights.
A crowd gathered to watch the recovery mission, as Gardai attended the scene and helped secure the area.
Several motorists were seen struggling to make it up and down the hill at the traffic lights on Main Street. The Council's road gritter was soon on the scene, and helped alleviate the situation somewhat.
The town had experienced a heavy snowfall during the day, and the snow had compacted into ice as temperatures fell further as the evening progressed.
Compacted ice on Thursday made footpaths in Gorey treacherous, and the Council initiated a major hand-gritting programme to help ease the situation.
