Syrian refugees arriving in Wexford must be properly integrated - Wadding

By David Looby

The 81 Syrian refugees who are arriving into County Wexford this summer need to be integrated properly into the community, Cllr Deirdre Wadding said.

Wexford County Council CEO Tom Enright said the refugees will initially complete a 12 week induction programme at the designated emergency reception and orientation centre in Dungarvan. He said the refugees are expected to arrive in County Wexford in late May.

'Wexford County Council are currently in the process of recruiting a contracted designated refugee support worker who will be employed on an initial one year contract to support the refugees when they arrive and assist them to integrate into the Irish community. Other supports will also be provided.'

A designated Refugee Resettlement Interagency Working Group has been established in County Wexford, led by Wexford County Council and comprising representatives of Government bodies.
