Temporary bridge buoys

WEXFORD Borough Council is installing temporary lifebuoys on Wexford Bridge until permanent devices, on order, become available.

The smaller lifebuoys similar to the ones found on beaches will remain in place until the new ones are fitted along with an extension of the town's CCTV system to ensure that they are not tampered with.

The council wants the public to be aware that anyone interfering with lifebuoys will face fines of up to €6,000 or imprisonment.

Crimewatch Security has offered to monitor the new lifebuoys for the council, to detect acts of vandalism which have been a problem with lifebuoys on the bridge in the past.
