Terraced house gutted by fire
A terraced house in Wexford town centre was gutted in a fierce blaze on Friday afternoon.
There was no-one in the house in Peter Street at the time and there were no reports of anyone being hurt although an ambulance was standing by just in case.
Fire fighters were called to the blaze a little after 3 p.m. and while they got the worst of the fire quickly under control the flames had spread to the rafters and columns of thick grey smoke boiled from the upper windows.
The narrow street was blocked off by the gardai as a crew of the fire tender trained their hoses on the blaze.
The house owner, a local man, was said to be out shopping in a nearby supermarket when the fire began.
The cause of the fire is so far unknown.
