Third time proved to be a charm for local folklore expert Michael Fortune who successfully launched the third part of About This Place in Taghmon recently.

After months of work in the village, he introduced the public to his project with a village tour of Taghmon. People from the village and afar were brought to holy wells, raheens, pre-christian sites of worship and other sites that they may not have been aware of.

'There is a general belief that everyone knows everything about their village. However often it is the case that certain families know about one particular thing, a burial site for example, and only they know about it,' said Michael. 'Many stories and sites have been unearthed as a result of being physically embedded within these communities, walking the field and meeting people.'

Following the tour, a community map was unveiled and the project was launched by Chairperson of Wexford County Council Cllr Tony Dempsey.

The project was produced in conjunction with Taghmon Family Resource Centre and a variety of other local individuals and groups. It is part of a larger umbrella project of Michaels in Co. Wexford.
